PASADENA, TX, April 21, 2010 – HCA Affiliated Bayshore Medical Center (BMC), in conjunction with the Houston Dermatological Society and the American Cancer Society, will be hosting an annual Free Skin Cancer Screening Event on Saturday, May 15th from 10:00am-1:00pm in the Main Outpatient Mall at 4000 Spencer Highway, Pasadena. The event will provide people of all ages the opportunity to receive free skin cancer screenings. The event is part of Bayshore’s ongoing effort to increase the focus on preventative healthcare measures for all residents throughout Pasadena and the surrounding communities.
Based on current statistics from the American Cancer Society, more than 1 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed yearly in the United States but if detected early, most skin cancers can be successfully treated.
“Physicians at Bayshore Medical Center stress that people should check their skin regularly for any early warning signs of skin cancer,” says Jeff Holland, CEO of Bayshore Medical Center. “Most types of skin cancer are treatable if detected early and that’s the opportunity we’re providing at this cancer screening event.”
While full body screens are recommended, participants may elect to have only specific areas of concern examined. All community members are encouraged to participate, and any family members are welcome.
